Last night Marvel dropped a new trailer for the upcoming Secret Invasion series dring ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, and we have it, plus the premiere date and even a new poster, for you to check out.
The Series
Marvel Studios’ new series, Secret Invasion, is being described as an espionage thriller that takes place in the present day MCU.
In it, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls led by Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), who are quietly installing double agents into positions of power around the world.
Fury joins his friends and allies, including Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), Maria Hill (Cobie Sumlders), James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle), and the Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who has made a life for himself on Earth, in a race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion, and save humanity.
Skrulls were first introduced into the MCU in the 1990s-set Captain Marvel, when Fury and Talos, fought side by side.
We most recently saw Skrulls at the ends of Spider-Man: Far from Home, and the WandaVision series on Disney+.
Secret Invasion draws its inspiration from a 2008 Marvel Comics storyline written by Brian Michael Bendis, which crossed over into other superhero storylines.
Disney+ series’ executive producer Jonathan Schwartz says the show also takes its cues from the Cold War espionage thrillers of John le Carré, as well as from some contemporary TV shows like Homeland and The Americans.
Secret Invasion also stars MCU newcomers Emilia Clarke as Talos’ daughter G’iah, and Olivia Colman as MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth, who has history with Fury, along with Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, and Katie Finneran.
Ali Selim directs Secret Invasion and executive produces alongside Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Jackson, Kyle Bradstreet, and Brian Tucker. Bradstreet also serves as the head writer, with Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams, and Brant Englestein serving as co-executive producers.
The Trailer
We meet all the major players of this series in this trailer, which finds Fury returning to Earth.
“Fury,” says Talos over ominous music, “Since you’ve been gone…Things have gotten much worse.” to with Nick replies, “Why do you think I came back?”
But while he’ll get help from some friends, Fury makes it clear it won’t come from superheroes. “Where are the Avengers,” a voice asks him. “This war is one I have to fight. Alone,” Fury gravely states.
Take a look at the gritty trailer for Secret Invasion, which will premiere on Disney+ on Friday, June 21, 2023:
The Poster
In this new key art for the series, we see a black and white Nick Fury with color peeks at a green skrull interspersed, which appears to be a nod to the last time we saw who we thought was Fury at the end of Spider-Man: Far from Home.
Will you be watching Marvel’s Secret Invasion when it airs? Let us know in the comments. I personally am looking forward to it, as it has a Captain America: Civil War feel to it.
