The Disney Cruise Line recently held a keel laying ceremony, a time-honored maritime tradition, for the Disney Treasure at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The Ceremony
Philip Gennotte, portfolio project management executive, Walt Disney Imagineering Germany, took part in the ceremony, where a newly minted coin is placed under the keel of the ship for good fortune.
The next major step will be a “float out” ceremony, where the ship leaves dry land and becomes waterborne for the first time.
Disney Treasure is the second of three ships in the new Trident class, and like its sister ship Disney Wish, it will feature an eco-friendly LNG drive system.
The ship will feature an Aladdin theme, and is due to be delivered to Disney Cruise Line in 2024.
The Coin
The commemorative coin used in the keel laying ceremony featured an etching of Captain Minnie Mouse donning a new look that embodies ship’s adventure motif, with the words “Voyager Minnie” underneath on one side.
On the other side of the coin is an etching of the ship with the name Disney Treasure on top, and the hull number S718 on the bottom with the words Meyer Werft.
Here is a closer look at both sides of the coin:
