Up Here, a new musical romantic comedy series, debuts on Hulu today, March 24, and here’s everything you need to know about this ambitious new show.
The Story
Up Here follows the extraordinary story of one ordinary couple, Lindsay (Mae Whitman) and Miguel (Carlos Valdes), during the waning days of 1999 in New York City.
Set in an era before smartphones, the series chronicles Lindsay and Miguel’s romantic saga, from the time they meet in a bar by chance.
But as they fall in love, they discover that the single greatest obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves because of the inner voices in their heads feeding them memories, obsessions, fears, and fantasies.
Up Here also stars Katie Finneran, John Hodgman, Andréa Burns, Sophia Hammons, and Emilia Suárez.
Behind the Scenes
The idea comes for the series from award-winning songwriting duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (who won Oscars for writing music for Disney’s Frozen and Coco films). The duo also co-wrote the series’ original songs and serve as executive producers.
Co-writing the series are Steven Levenson (tick…tick…BOOM!, Dear Evan Hanson) and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (The Carmichael Show).
Thomas Kail (Hamilton) directs, and co-produces with 20th Television.
How to Watch
All eight episodes premiere at the same time Friday, March 24, on Hulu, and this series is intended only for mature audiences.
