Artist Kalle Pascal, who goes by KalleFORnia SurferBOY, has written an anthem for everyone who spent part of the first decade of the new millennium glued to The Disney Channel. It captures a collective experience that few will have today with the shift to streaming services like Disney+.
Pascal wrote the song for everyone who “wanted to just go back home and be with his TV friends on the ‘Disney Channel.’” He states that his desire to return to those days is what gave him “the impetus to get into music and help those kids who are alone but don’t need to be lonely.”
With his distinct vocal style, Pascal really stands out from the crowd. He learned to sing by taking lessons and watching YouTube tutorials then practiced until he was comfortable. As he progressed, this unique sound developed.
The Disney Channel was his sanctuary, especially from 2006-08. “I got hooked when I came home from a basketball game I had just played and ‘High School Musical’ was on. They had the same jerseys as us. Then I watched the rest and fell in love. I related, of course, because I was a basketball player who also had other dreams,” said Pascal.
Pascal’s most watched show was ”Hannah Montana,” and he loved “That’s So Raven” and “The Suite Life of Zach and Cody”, (“I’m a twin” he notes.) Plus he thinks the most underrated show of the era was “Phil of the Future.”
It’s no surprise that most of those shows are prominently mentioned in the lyrics for his song “Disney Channel.” Watch it on YouTube embedded here or listen on Spotify.
While the low-tech visuals in the above video leave something to be desired, we think Pascal and producer Tom Bajoras have produced a fantastic song that drips in nostalgia for Disney fans of a certain age. It definitely gave us some flashbacks to how we felt watching our favorite Disney shows growing up.
What Pascal wants most is for other Disney kids to “go back to those beautiful times when you could just erase all your worries with an hour of TV” on the Disney Channel. Even if someone has never watched he wants them to “feel nostalgic even though they didn’t experience” the shows.
