In honor of what would have been the legendary Stan Lee’s 100th birthday, it was announced that a documentary on the life of legendary Stan Lee will be coming to Disney+ in 2023.
The Details
The announcement of the eponymous documentary, “Stan Lee,” didn’t contain a lot of details beyond the title and a tagline that reads “100 years of dreaming. 100 years of creating. 100 years of Stan Lee.”
But this original documentary produced by Marvel Entertainment has a lot to highlight as Lee is the creator/co-creator of such legendary characters as Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Thor, Silver Surfer, Ant-Man, Nick Fury, The Avengers, and hundreds more.
Born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York City on December 28, 1922, he grew up during the Great Depression, eventually getting a job as an office assistant at a comic publisher in 1939 to help out his family. Then known as Timely Comics, the company would evolve into what we know today as Marvel.
75 years later, Lee is celebrated as the creative tour de force behind Marvel’s Silver Age in the 1960s, where he also worked with talents such as Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, John Romita Sr., and Bill Everett.
Lee was also annointed the title of Disney Legend in 2017.
Up until his passing in 2018, just about every MCU film featured a cameo by Lee to honor his creations. From appearing at the gala in 2008’s “Iron Man,” to his last appearance in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Marvel fans always had fun trying to spot Lee’s cameos.
The Trailer
Disney+ and Marvel have released a brief teaser trailer for the documentary that spotlights several of those MCU cameos as the image pulls out to the artistic image of Lee seen at the top of this page.
