Disney Designates July 21 as 'DOLE Whip Day'

Disney has designated today, July 21, as “DOLE Whip Day,” and I have locations you can find DOLE Whip in the parks (including limited-time offerings), the history of it, and even DIY recipes to make at home.

The History

In 1963, Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room debuted at Disneyland, and thirtheen years later in 1976, Dole Food Company becomes sponsor of this attraction, taking over from United Airlines.

The partnership included taking over sponsorship of the Tiki Juice Bar, which starts serving DOLE® Pineapple spears and juice. The sponsorship continues today.

A decade later, in 1986, Dole Food Company debuts the Dole Whip and Dole Whip Float at Disney parks as another way to offer its pineapples to guests.

In the years following, DOLE has introduced other Whip flavors including cherry, mango, lemon, watermelon, orange, raspberry, strawberry, and lime.

Make Your Own

The fine people at the DOLE Food Company have given us the following recipes to make your own DOLE Whip at home:

DIY DOLE Whip

Ingredients

1 cup ripe DOLE® pineapple, chopped and frozen
1 ripe DOLE® Banana, peeled and frozen
2-1/2 teaspoons powdered sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk
1 teaspoon lime juice

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Cover; blend until smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Garnish with fresh pineapple. Serve immediately.

DOLE says this will make 2 servings at 120 calories each. But who really counts calories with DOLE Whip, right?
