Marvel has put “Captain America 4” closer to production by naming Julius Onah as the film’s director.
About the Director
Julius Onah is a Nigerian-American filmmaker who is best known for being picked by J.J. Abrams to direct 2018’s “The Cloverfield Paradox,” the third film in the “Cloverfield” series.
He also directed the 2019 Neon drama “Luce,” based on J.C. Lee’s play of the same name, for which he was nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards for Best Director.
About the Film
“Captain America 4” will star Anthony Mackie in the title role and his alter ego Sam Wilson.
He was given the mantle by Steve Rogers at the end of “Avengers: Endgame” but didn’t fully accept the role of Captain America until the end of the Disney+ series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
It’s highly unlikely Chris Evans will return as Steve Rogers for the new film.
“The role isn’t even mine anymore,” Evans recently said in an interview. “The role is Anthony Mackie’s.”
Not to mention when we left Rogers at the end of “Avengers: Endgame,” he was physically an elderly man.
However it is possible for Sebastian stan to return as Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. The Winter Soldier, as Bucky worked well with Sam in the series.
Potential Villains
It is unknown who Captain America will be battling, but “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” certainly left some potential candidates for the villain role.
Last we left the series, viewers discovered that Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) had drifted to the dark side to become the Power Broker of Madripoor, a fact that Sam still does not know.
Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) may have helped Sam and Bucky in the series, but he’s still operating in a very grey area. Top villain, no, but as an antagonist, entirely possible.
And let’s not forget Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louise-Dreyfuss) who was introduced towards the end of the series.
She already convinced super soldier John Walker to become U.S. Agent, foreshadowing the Dark Avengers or Thunderbolts story lines, and in the comics, she is known as Madame Hydra.
The Script
While not much is known about the plot of “Captain America 4,” the script is being co-written by Malcolm Spellman, who also wrote “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
The show’s staff writer, Dalan Musson, is also co-writing the film script.
Release Date
It’s too early for any release date to be set for “Captain America 4,” but as soon as we hear of one, we’ll let you know.
Marvel has a full slate for the next couple of years, so it’ll be at least 2025 before they can fit it in the schedule.
The project was first announced in August 2021, when Anthony Mackie signed on to the film..
