Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Disney+ Debut Announced

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has cleaned up at the box office earning $879M worldwide. As of the publishing of this article, Doctor Strange sits at number one for earnings both domestically and internationally. That’s pretty big for a non-Avengers movie.

Today, Disney announced that Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will begin streaming on its Disney+ service. The answer is very soon — June 22.

To get the word out, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong and Xochitl Gomez filmed a new online spot with a special thank you to fans!

If you haven’t seen the latest Doctor Strange movie, it may be tempting to wait until it hits Disney+ later this month, but I really think it’s worth seeing on the biggest screen you can find.

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe proceeds with its phase 4 releases, it unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We can’t wait to see more of the multiverse in future Marvel Studios films and shows.

Trivia and Fun Facts about “Multiverse of Madness”

“Multiverse of Madness” builds on the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which also featured Doctor Strange. But did you know that timing issues related to the global pandemic changed the release order of the two films?

Originally, “Multiverse of Madness” was supposed to be released before “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” and for that matter “Wandavision.” But the schedule change required vast rewriting for all three projects.

The scene on multiverse Earth version 838, features Marvel Studios first acknowledgement of the Inhumans. The inclusion of Terrigen Mist, as mentioned in Marvel TV’s “Agents of SHIELD” and the character of Black Bolt who was also played by Anson Mount in the short lived Marvel TV series “Inhumans” might indicate a possible return to the concept of Terrigen mutations in the MCU.

Speaking of crossovers, also on Earth-838, we encounter Charles Xavier/Professor X. Disney acquired the rights to the X-men franchise with the purchase of 20th Century Fox Studios.

It’s largely thought that Marvel Studios wants to do more with the X-men going forward, so introducing Professor X here could be that door.

Finally, it’s a very similar situation with the character of Reed Richard/Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four. There is a Fantastic Four movie announced by Marvel Studios, however it’s unclear if John Krasinski will star in it as Marvel Studios is reportedly still trying to find a big name director to helm it.

About the film:

In “Multiverse of Madness,” is a journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange. With the help of mystical allies both old and new, Doctor Strange traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.

The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll, Scott Derrickson and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” released in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2022.
