We’re getting close to the spooky season, and amidst a flurry of news released yesterday, Disney revealed the exact date that “Hocus Pocus 2” will be released on Disney+.
Back in January, “Hocus Pocus 2” producer Adam Shankman revealed that filming had completed, and said the movie would be released “Halloween 2022.”
It was speculated that meant October 31, but it now appears that it meant we could enjoy it the entire Halloween 2022 season.
“Hocus Pocus 2” will debut on Disney+ on September 30, 2022!
The date was released during an industry event called “Upfronts” where the various networks and streamers reveal their upcoming series, movies, and events to media buyers and the press.
EW Magazine said the audience also got a sneak peek at the film:
The rough-cut footage showed two young girls lighting the Black Flame Candle, which summons the central witches as Midler squeals, “Lock up your children! Yes, Salem, we’re back!”
They then launch into a musical number — a cover of Elton John’s “The Bitch Is Back” — while Billy Butcherson (Doug Jones) and a still-unnamed character played by Sam Richardson also appear. Tony Hale, who plays the mayor of Salem, is also featured in the clip.
According to Disney+, in this sequel to the family favorite Halloween film, three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem. They must then figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles as the delightfully wicked Sanderson Sisters.
As we announced last Halloween, joining them will be Jones, Hale, Richardson, Hannah Waddingham, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Juju Brenner, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Henderson and Nina Kitchen.
Disney+ recently held a “Hocus Pocus” Twitter Watch Party that was so much fun, especially since Jones participated and shared his memories from the film. I hope they do another Twitter Watch Party for the new film. I’ll let you know if they do!
