Disney Parks has announced it is opening Walt Disney World 2023 ticket and resort bookings on June 8, and with that will come changes to Disney Genie+, as well.
Starting June 8, Genie+ will also no longer be available for purchase in advance for visits to Walt Disney World.
Guests will only be able to purchase Genie+ service on the day of their visit via the app, one day at a time, subject to availability.
Now, instead of conveniently purchasing Genie+ in advance of your stay, you have to either stay up late or get up early each day to make your Genie+ purchase for that day. It’s not clear if it will be available at midnight or 7am.
This is valid for dates remaining in 2022 and for the new dates in 2023.
However, if you have already purchased a ticket in advance that includes Disney Genie+ service for dates later in 2022, your booking won’t change and you’ll still have use of Genie+. This new rule isn’t retroactive, thankfully.
But if you haven’t already purchased Genie+ in advance by June 8, you’ll have to wait until the day of your visit to purchase it.
This update is only happening at Walt Disney World Resort and will not affect guests at Disneyland Resort, as Disney Parks says the services vary at each destination.
Also notable is the insertion of the phrase “subject to availability.” Disney previously indicated Genie+ will not sell out on any given day, so the phrase is an important change.
This change could allow Disney to limit sales on days that are expected to be crowded or charge more on those days.
In announcing the change, Disney says:
“We’re focused on delivering the best possible guest experience, and this adjustment will help manage the incredibly strong demand our guests have shown for Disney Genie+.
We expect that, on average, guests who purchase Disney Genie+ service will continue to enter 2-3 attractions or experiences each day using the Lightning Lane entrance when the first selection is made early in the day. “
