Disney+ has announced they have found their lead actor for the upcoming “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series based on the books by Rick Riordan.

Actor Walker Scobell has been cast the new Percy Jackson. He recently starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in the Netflix movie “The Adam Project.”

Scobell will protray the 12-year-old modern demigod who is just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt.

As a result, Percy and his friends must trek across America to find the bolt, and restore order to Olympus.

Riordan will pen the Disney+ pilot with Jon Steinberg (“Black Sails”), while James Bobin (“The Mysterious Benedict Society”) will direct. All three will serve as executive producers, along with former Touchstone Television President Bert Salke, who originally put the project into development.

The series was first announced in January of this year, and is set to start production this summer.

The character of Percy Jackson was previously portrayed by actor Logan Lerman, who portrayed the demigod in two 20th Century Fox movie adaptations: 2010’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” and 2013’s “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.”
