Yesterday Disney Wish, the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, completed a major milestone with its first “float out.”
A float-out is a process in shipbuilding that follows the keel laying and precedes the fitting-out process.
It marks when the ship leaves dry land and becomes waterborne for the first time, and often takes place with a ceremony commemorating the event.
Keeping the tradition alive, Disney Cruise Line celebrated the event with fireworks and an appearance by Captain Minnie Mouse at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenberg, Germany, where the ship has been under construction since 2020.
It’s a big step towards accepting guests on board for the Wish, which recently had to push back its inaugural sailing from June 9 to July 14, 2022.
