It looks like we’ll have to wait longer to see the further adventures of Gaston and LeFou, as Disney+ has made the decision to put the “Beauty and the Beast” prequel series on hold.
Sources say the creative elements, like the scripts and original music not coming together in the direction expected, were running behind enough to not be ready when the show was scheduled to film.
Because many of the actors had other commitments beginning in August, it was not feasible to push the shooting schedule into the fall. Plus fall weather in the UK, where filming was to occur, tends to be gloomy.
It’s unclear if the current cast will be able to return when and if a new timeline opens up.
Josh Gad, who also was also writing and executive producing the series in addition to reprising the role of LeFou, has a packed upcoming schedule that includes the live-action Pinocchio for Disney and Apple’s “Echo 3” series, plus he’s currently starring in Peacock’s “Wolf Like Me.”
Luke Evans, who was reprising his Gaston role, is also slated to appear in the live-action Pinocchio for Disney and Apple’s “Echo 3” series.
Briana Middleton, Fra Fee and Jelani Alladin had also been cast as leads, with Rita Ora just announced earlier this week at the TCA Winter Press Tour 2022.
Disney+ says it is still committed to making the series, but it’s unclear when or who will still be involved. If we hear of something, we’ll let you know.
