Life as a video game comes to Disney+ when the hit film “Free Guy” debuts on the streamer on February 23, 2022.
The action-comedy stars Ryan Reynolds as Guy, a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game. He decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites for himself.
But he’s racing against time to complete his mission against Antwan Hovachelik (Taika Waititi), the ruthless and narcissistic CEO of the video game company who is trying to erase the game, and Guy.
Now in a world where there’s no limits, he’s determined to save the day his way before it’s too late, and maybe also find a little romance with the coder (Jodie Comer) who conceived him and helps him in the game.
“Free Guy” is directed and produced by Shawn Levy from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn. It also stars Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar.
The film was released by 20th Century Studios in August 2021, and hit #1 at the box office its opening week, grossing over $330 million worldwide to date. There is also a sequel in the works.
It recently won a People’s Choice Award for The Comedy Movie of 2021, and has received a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Comedy Film.
