Pixar’s next film is the animated “Turning Red,” and today the studio dropped the first full trailer for the movie.
According to Pixar, the story follows Meilin “Mei” Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang), a confident and slightly dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence.
Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (voice of Sandra Oh), is never far from her daughter – an unfortunate reality for the teenager.
As if changes to her interests, relationships, and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she finds she “poofs” into a giant red panda.
The film was co-written and directed by Domee Shi, who won an Oscar for Pixar’s 2018’s short film “Bao,” which I loved.
I think this looks cute, funny, and heartwarming. I also have to give props to the editor of the trailer for using N’Sync’s “It’s Gonna Be Me” as the music for the trailer given the wordplay (“Gonna Be Me”…”Gonna Be Mei”).
Take a look at the trailer below and then let us know what you think in the comments.
“Turning Red” hits theaters in the U.S. March 11, 2022.
