If you love animated films, you’ll definitely want to check out 20th Century Studios’ and Locksmith Animation’s Ron’s Gone Wrong, which will be released this Friday, October 22, 2021.
The film was originally a 20th Century Fox film, but when Disney acquired 20th Century in the Fox purchase, Ron’s Gone Wrong, ended up on the Disney release calendar.
The film tells the story of Barney, a socially awkward middle-schooler and Ron, his new walking, talking, digitally-connected B*Bot device, which is supposed to be his “Best Friend Out of the Box.”
But Ron isn’t without some glitches, and its hilarious malfunctions, set against the backdrop of the social media age, set the duo on an action-packed journey in which boy and robot come to terms with the wonderful messiness of true friendship.
Ron’s Gone Wrong features the voices of Zach Galifianakis, Jack Dylan Grazer, Olivia Colman, Ed Helms, Justice Smith, Rob Delaney, Kylie Cantrall, Ricardo Hurtado, Marcus Scribner, Thomas Barbusca.
The film is directed by Pixar veteran Jean-Philippe Vine (story artist on Cars 3 and The Good Dinosaur) and Locksmith co-founder Sarah Smith (Arthur Christmas) with Octavio Rodriguez (story artist on Coco and The Incredibles 2) co-directing.
Here is a trailer for the film that introduces the B*Bot, Ron, and Barney. I think it feels like it has touches of Big Hero 6 and Inside Out to it.
