The overnight work to prepare Cinderella Castle for The Most Magical Celebration on Earth honoring the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World continues this week. More decorations have been added to both the east and west sides of the park icon.
We visited Magic Kingdom earlier this week and recorded this brief video of the new decoration and work on the forecourt stage:
We love how the castle is already taking on an “EARidescent” glow with these new gold and royal blue hues.
The castle is also getting some new blue paint on its spires and roof areas. This replaces the previous more iridescent purple/blue color that was added in 2020, but is already fading in the Florida sun.
Additionally, the Castle Forecourt stage is getting some interesting upgrades. The floor has been removed entirely and a new subfloor is being added with what looks like heating coils (like you might have in your bathroom floor at home). In theory, this should help the stage dry out quicker after those famous central Florida afternoon showers.
The Tomorrowland side had five beautiful decorations installed. It’s our understanding that the blue ‘jewels’ will illuminate and sparkle at night.
Here’s a closer look at those royal blue and gold decorations. Notice how the smaller pieces have the number 50 inside the little circles.
For now the work is happening overnight with cherry pickers that are kept in the drained moat area in front of the castle. As the work progresses higher and higher on the castle, we expect to see a larger crane brought in.
According to Disney’s press release, the final look of the castle will contain more than 110 new decorative pieces. We’ve included the concept art here so you can compare with how the project looks now.
We also like this animated version of the concept art:
