The first major details for the The Walt Disney World Resort 50th Anniversary Celebration will be revealed on Good Morning America tomorrow morning. It’s been a long wait since the 2019 D23 Expo where a very brief teaser revealed the above image.
Tonight, a special trailer was released, teasing tomorrow’s highly anticipated unveiling:
While no official details have been revealed. It looks like this video confirms that each of the park icons will get a special treatment, probably via digital projection, other lighting and music.
As has been Disney’s habit for the big anniversary dates, the Fab Five will probably get some new outfits as well.
We also expect to hear when the 50th anniversary celebration will begin. Most Disney watchers think that will be October 1, 2021 (the 50th anniversary date) and continue for 12-18 months.
This period would allow Disney to launch a bunch of new attractions during the celebration. Both Remy’s Rataouille Adventure and HarmonioUS at EPCOT will probably open before that date, but Guardians of the Galaxy and TRON coaster may not open by the 1st.
Of course, it also feels a bit weird to hear Disney talking about bringing people together for the anniversary, but remember hopefully vaccinations will be widely available by this October and Disney should be able to adjust capacity levels accordingly.
It’s been a long time since we first saw the logo for the WDW 50th anniversary back at the D23 Expo in 2019. The world has changed, some favorites are probably gone forever, but Disney will return with new magic and new traditions built by visitors.
Any other guesses as to what will be revealed on GMA in the morning?
50 Year merchandise is great and I too look forward to what they will be bringing out for the celebration. But we have to remember that an anniversary is also about TRADITION and how things started back in 1971. The celebration isn’t just about the new, but about remembering the old. And cherishing it ALL. After all, this is Walt Disney World’s GOLDEN anniversary! Celebrate!!!
