The next film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Raya and the Last Dragon,” will be receiving a promotional tie-in to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Set in the fantasy world of Kumandra, roughly analogous to Southeast Asia, the movie tells the story of Raya and her sidekick Tuk Tuk who must hunt down the last dragon to save her people from the sinister Druun.

The Animation Experience at Conservation Station will give guests the chance to learn to draw animal inspired Disney characters from the company’s popular movies.

Beginning February 22, 2021, a Disney character artist will lead guests on how to draw the pill bug Tuk Tuk, Raya’s faithful companion.

As aprt of the experience, guests will also see a video with a behind the scenes look at the inspiration for Tuk Tuk, with help from Kelly Marie Tran (voice of Raya) and Awkwafina (voice of Sisu).

On your way to Converation Station, be sure to stop at the Discovery Island stage where artists will be molding 40 tons of sand into a sculpture celebrating the new film.

The sand sculpture will feature Raya, Tuk Tuk, Sisu the last dragon and the Ongi, all set in the fantasy world of Kumandra. If you’re in the park between February 19-21 you can watch the artists work on the sand carving. Weather permitting, the artwork will remain on display at Disney’s Animal Kingdom through the end of March.

The new action-adventure fantasy film will debut in movie theaters on March 5, 2021 and on Disney+ for those who have Premier Access (Which requires an additional $30 upcharge to your monthly subscription).

Side note: Is Tuk Tuk close to Tik Tok on purpose or is that a coincidence? Anybody know?
