Marvel’s Dr. Strange was one of the few comics I read religiously as a kid. It was a comfort to know that no matter how screwed up my suburban childhood felt, there was an even stranger universe out there I could turn to. It perversely gave me a sense of normal.
In recent years Dr. Strange joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his own movie and a key part in the two-part wrap up of the Avengers saga. That brought him a lot of fans, but they may not be as familiar with the truly strange, even Lovecraftian, worlds that Dr. Strange fights to keep our world safe.
The headquarters for Dr. Strange is the Sanctum Sanctorum set in the Greenwich Village of New York City. Marvel has given fans a gift with a 10-hour video of ambient “footage” that purports to be observing the Sanctum Sanctorum as he goes about his work.
It’s an odd soundscape and visual treat that can live in the background, like something of a superhero study soundtrack with a dash of Shuma-Gorath.
In watching the 10-hour ambient video you get the sense that you’re outside, but without actually going outside. Which is safer these days.
Yeah, that was pretty eerie, but also a good choice for ambient background in today’s uncertain world.
“Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” is the next Dr. Strange movie from Marvel Studios. Are you looking forward to it?
