With 34 resorts on Walt Disney World property and 28 of them being owned and operated by Disney itself, it can be hard to choose a resort to stay in. Disney has separated all of their resorts into three categories — Deluxe, Moderate and Value. These categories are distinguished by price, quality, and amenities (although with additions like Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs Resort, those distinctions are starting to fade away). After Molly and I spent a night in at Port Orleans French Quarter this past week, we can confidently say this is our favorite moderate resort on property.
We got a King sized bedroom with a view of the main pool and enjoyed our time here quite a bit. We have both been fortunate enough to stay at multiple resorts on property but have never stayed at this specific resort. Port Orleans French Quarter is one of two parts to Port Orleans with the other being Riverside. They are not directly connected but are just a short walk away.
The room was very nice and homey and does not hide its New Orleans theming with painting and references to Princess and the Frog. We personally loved how intimate the resort felt. It is located right on the river with a walkway to Port Orleans Riverside and boating transportation to Disney Springs. We walked the entire walkway and explored Riverside and loved how quaint the property was due to the two part separation.
Although there is no sit down restaurant at French Quarter, there is a nice little shop, quick service, a bar/lounge that opens at 4PM every day and of course a location to get some beignets. The entire layout brings you straight to New Orleans and also gives you space to breathe.
There is something to be said about transportation as well. We both personally love other means of transportation outside the busses. Having the boat there to bring us to Disney Springs was fantastic and made our night stay both romantic and more enjoyable. We we’re celebrating Molly’s birthday as well which made the boating experience on the river even better for those reasons.
Overall, we loved our stay and will be recommending this to anybody looking at options for hotels. We put together a full video on our room which you can find above. It entails just a quick room tour and some of the features offered.
