The theme of Enzo’s Hideaway is a restaurant and bar opened in the space of an old speakeasy used by smugglers during prohibition. One of their regular recurring events is called the Smugglers Series and it partners alcoholic beverage tasting with specially crafted menu items for a unique dining experience. The theme of the March Smugglers Series was Rum and we were invited as media to attend the event.
Enzo’s Hideaway partnered with Ron Abuelo Rum, the top Rum producer from Panama. They brought with them a variety of aged Rums many finished in specialized barrels to impart a unique flavor and smooth finish. What then followed was a long seminar on how Rum is made, what Ron Abuelo Rum brings to the table with its long tradition and innovations, and four rounds of fantastic food samples.
Each round of food was paired with a special rum drink, but we also learned about rum production and the different varieties of rum available to enjoy and then tested each flavor separately. I found I really enjoyed the 15 year aged Rum, but also found that even the seven year rum can make a great Mint Julep.

We left with a sample of Ron Abeulo Rum and a special engraved Mint Julep cup to make our own delicious drinks at home.
The April event will be announced soon. In the meantime check out the Easter Brunch options at Enzo’s Hideaway, Maria and Enzo’s and The Edison.
