Each year the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRCF) publishes a list of the top corporations in the United States ranking how well they stack up regarding workplace equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) employees. In the 2019 report, we’re happy to note that the Walt Disney Company earned a perfect score of 100.
This is the 13th consecutive year Disney has received top marks on the report for its corporate practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. HRCF recognized Disney as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
Criteria for the 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) include workforce protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits and public engagements with the LGBTQ community. The perfect score means Disney satisfied each CEI checkbox and consistently met the evolving standards.
“We are committed to creating and sustaining a welcoming environment for all our employees,” said Latondra Newton, Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “We are proud of our longstanding commitment to LGBTQ workplace equality and recognize that we thrive when all people are valued and encouraged.”
Disney states they are committed to workplace equality and will continue to be a leader in providing benefits to same-sex couples, as well as supporting transitioning employees, fostering LGBTQ business employee resource groups, and providing training for employees and leaders on LGBTQ inclusion. The Company is also committed to contributing to diverse communities through service and donations to organizations including: Out & Equal Workplace Advocates, Trevor Project, GLSEN, GLAAD, Human Rights Campaign and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
Maintaining an inclusive and equal workforce allows Disney to tell the rich and relevant stories that today’s audiences crave. Congratulations to everyone at the Mouse House on their perfect score on the CEI and thanks for showing the way on LGBTQ Equality.
