Happy Thanksgiving Eve! ‘Tis the season of giving and Disney chefs are busy preparing to bring the magic of the theme parks to others in the Central Florida community by working with Disney cast member VoluntEARS to prepare and serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings to nearly 700 residents at the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.
Chef Lenny DeGeorge, culinary director, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and a team of culinary Cast Members are continuing a 20-year partnership of Walt Disney World food and beverage teams visiting the Coalition twice each month to prepare a fresh, delicious meal.
With less than a day to go before Thanksgiving you may be rushing around trying to gather the ingredients for the perfect side dish for your own holiday table. In the spirit of the season, the chefs of Disney have a humble nomination from EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays – Sweet Potato Casserole.
This recipe serves four and can easily be doubled or tripled for larger gatherings. Don’t skimp on the sugar and marshmallows if you want to end up with the perfect sweet and savory side dish that will leave your family and friends ready to scoop up another portion.
Thank you to Disney’s chefs for sharing this great recipe with us. We hope to have an update on this year’s big Thanksgiving meal with Chef Lenny soon.
The Coalition for the Homeless also receives food through the Disney Harvest program, a program in which unused, prepared food from restaurants and conventions across Walt Disney World Resort are collected and delivered to more than 60 Central Florida nonprofit organizations.
We’re thankful we can support an organization like Disney that reaches out to the community it is a part of to help others in need on a regular basis. Thanks to all the Disney Cast Members who participate in great programs like this and other VoluntEARs efforts.
