Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” makes animated feature box office history

Congratulations to all the crew at Pixar Animation Studios, their latest film “Incredibles 2” just made Box Office history as the first animated film to earn more than $600 million at the domestic box office. No other animated film has ever crossed $500 million, so this is quite an accomplishment.

“Incredibles 2” is only the 9th movie ever to cross $600M at the domestic box office. Disney’s having a great 2018 as both “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War” have also crossed that high water mark.

With a worldwide treasure chest of $1.16 billion, the Parr family is almost ready to take the lead in the race for highest worldwide gross. This weekend they put “Minions” ($1.15 billion) in the rear view mirror. Disney’s “Frozen” is ahead with $1.27 billion. But “Incredibles 2” has a long way to go to get there and not much more time left to get there. In its 12th week of release, the film has yet to open in Germany and Italy, but that’s it.

With numbers like this, I think we can put to rest any worries about a Pixar slump. Disney’s California Adventure has capitalized on the popularity of The Incredibles with a re-theme of their big roller coaster ride, Walt Disney World was more tentative with just a summer festival. I would not be surprised if something more permanent was announced shortly in Orlando.

“Incredibles 2” is still playing at a number of theaters, in fact, Disney added theaters for the Labor Day weekend. Why not head out tonight and see it again?
