New image from Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns surfaces

Next Christmas we’ll all be unwrapping a big present from Walt Disney Studios in the form of Mary Poppins Returns – a long awaited sequel to the original Walt Disney classic. The film stars Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack the streetlamp lighter.

Disney is slowly leaking out bits and pieces from the film as hope for an official poster and trailer soon. In the meantime, look at this story in USA Today with this new photo.

In addition to Mary Poppins and Jack, the photo includes Jane (Emily Mortimer), John (Nathanael Saleh), Annabel (Pixie Davies), Ellen (Julie Walters), and Georgie (Joel Dawson). They appear to be heading out on a fun adventure.

Previously, we saw this photo with the crew jumping over a wall.

As Emily Blunt says about her character in the USA Today story:

“I just loved how eccentric and wacky she is in the books — incredibly vain and rude to the children. As a British person, I really responded to that lack of saccharine relationships. I find it comforting the idea of someone just sweeping in who’s no-nonsense and cleaning everything up and making everything right again in a magical way that’s not sentimental.”

As a huge fan of the original movie, but who hasn’t read the books, I hope the character is still grounded in Walt’s sensibility for the character. It’s okay to provide some additional British sensibilities, but keep her relatable with the children’s best interests at the top of her list.

The sequel takes place 25 years after the events of the original. It will follow the now-grown Banks children (Michael and Jane). They’ve each endured personal tragedy and need the hep of their former nanny for their own children.

Do you plan to add it to your family’s must-watch list this upcoming Christmas?

  1. Mary Poppins has always been my favorite Disney or any Movie. I read the books many years ago and may reread them but I do have hopes that it’s a hit movie
