Thor: Ragnarok crosses $500M at global box office

Helped by a strong release overseas performance, Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok” is making a claim for the box office throne bringing in an Asgardian sized $502.3M at the worldwide box office so far. With a strong second weekend expected in the US, the God of Thunder’s 3rd film could be a big payday for Disney.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has now had 12 consecutive films reach the $500M threshold, with all but 3 of the 17 films in the series having passed that total in final grosses. Right now the film has earned $354.4M overseas and $147.9M domestic. Which is a nice haul.

Current estimates for Thor: Ragnarok’s second weekend at the US box office is around $60 million. Combine that with offshore markets yet to open and the movie could end up in the $700M range, placing it in the top 10 of all MCU films.

If you haven’t seen Thor: Ragnarok yet, will you be going this weekend?
