Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a new place to sit down and enjoy a drink and snacks with friends and family. BaseLine Tap House takes the form of a lively corner pub specializing in California beers and wines. It’s located in the new Grand Avenue area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and is already very popular with guests.
We spoke with Chef Bill Brown who overseas both Baseline Tap House and the neighboring Sci-Fi Dine-in:
Capturing the spirit of present-day Downtown Los Angeles, Grand Avenue is home to vintage office buildings and warehouses that represent the city’s vibrant districts and cultures. In a quaint brick building, BaseLine Tap House pays homage to the Figueroa Printing Company, a mom-and-pop print house that had ties to the Disney Studios in nearby Burbank.
The space features many cool architectural and mechanical details with exposed walls and old printing equipment and artifacts, blending the past and present in an inviting space. Outside is a charming tree-shaded terrace, perfect for a relaxing break in the day.
Those with eagle eyes will spot some homages to Disneyland itself and the old sign from the locations’ previous incarnation – Writer’s Stop.
BaseLine Tap House celebrates the revitalization of Downtown Los Angeles with California craft ales, lagers and cider as the stars of the drink menu, along with California wines on tap and specialty cocktails. A gourmet non-alcoholic lemonade and soda on tap round out the drink selection. Small bites include a Bavarian pretzel with mustard and beer-cheese fondue, spiced almonds and a charcuterie board featuring California cheeses.
One of the great features of the beer flight is that it comes with little cards for each sample that you can bring home with you so you remember which beers you liked the best.
The mix of food is well suited to sharing around a table while enjoying a beer or two. Definitely order the Bavarian pretel, which is large enough to be shared by two or three. We also really enjoyed the charcuterie board at our table, but there are some tastes on their that not everyone will enjoy.
BaseLine Tap House will open daily at 11 a.m.
I’ll have to do a beer flight. I didn’t see a dark beer there but I hope they have a tasty stout or porter
