There were multiple reports on twitter tonight on the death of Powers Boothe at age 68. It was later confirmed by the trades. An acclaimed character actor, Boothe was known for playing the bad guy you loved to hate. He won an Emmy for portraying cult leader Jim Jones in Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones on CBS.
It's with great sadness that I mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe. A dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband.

For Disney Boothe recently played Hydra head Gideon Malick on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (pictured above) and previously appeared in Marvel’s “The Avengers” as the same character. Prior to that Booth appeared as Lamar Wyatt on the ABC TV Series Nashville.
My favorite role of Boothe’s was as Lt. Col. Andrew ‘Andy’ Tanner in the cult classic movie “Red Dawn” (clip below). Although I haven’t seen it yet, I hear he was pretty fantastic in “Deadwood,” and given his work in Tombstone, I find that easy to believe.
Boothe’s publicist said he died of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles earlier on Sunday.
Our condolences to all Boothe’s friends and family.
