We are getting our first look at two images from “Sanjay’s Super Team,” the upcoming short from Pixar.
Director Sanjay Patal was inspired by his own childhood to make this animated short. It follows a young boy who plays with his superheroes instead of meditating with his father. During his daydreams, three Hindu deities – Durga, Vishnu, and Hanuman – come to life as a sort of team super heroes.
Patel has shared some of his family’s hindu culture in his books about Hindu deities, it will be great to see them come to life on the big screen and inject some much needed cultural diversity into Disney’s lexicon of animation. From what we can see in these images, the short has a very similar style to Patel’s illustrations.
We’re told the short will have no dialogue, but will have a soundtrack composed by Mychael Danna. The short will screen with Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” which opens on November 25, 2015.
I’m so excited about this short! As the article says, Disney needs more diversity and I’m glad that recent projects such as this, Big Hero 6, and Moana are working towards that goal.
