There’s a name change for this year’s televised Disney Parks Christmas parade on ABC and Frozen has been given the title spot. The “Disney Parks Frozen Christmas Celebration” will air on December 25th at 10AM ET. This will be the 31st anniversary of the show.
As I’m sure you know, the show has long since given up just being a rebroadcast of the two holiday parades at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Instead it’s now mostly a giant infomercial designed to hook families into booking their next Walt Disney World or Disneyland vacation. Of course, there’s some entertainment mixed in too. But it’s all become very commercial.
Of the years the parade has moved from day to night and back again and undergone a couple different name changes. “The Walt Disney World Very Merry Christmas Parade” was the original title, it changed to “The Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade” in 2009. And who can forget the year it snowed at Disneyland:
I don’t mind the change in name from parade to celebration, and I don’t mind that Frozen gets a chance to shine either. There are so many young kids out there who love the movie, want to meet (or be) Anna or Elsa, and the Frozen theme does tie-in nicely to Christmas.
What do you think? Does your family make the Disney Park’s Christmas Day Parade a family tradition?
Ever since we saw the parade for the first time when I was about 6 or 7 years old, my family has made it a tradition to watch the parade every Christmas morning. I am now 19 years old and I still look forward to watching the parade. It is a tradition that I hope my kids one day will be able to be a part of.
I have actually spoken to the production company who is producing this, and they are casting people for this parade. Since the theme is Frozen, they want to reunite family members who haven’t seen each other in a long time so I sent in my submission to see my brother who has been deployed for 18 months! Hopefully they pick me!!
