The La Jolla Playhouse production of Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame began last night and runs through December 14th. Early reports are that the new songs are tremendous and Patrick Page is great as Frollo.
If you’re planning on attending a future performance, the playhouse has provided a “Know Before You Go” guide for the production. In the guide you will find tips on seeing the show as well as information on the show’s cast and crew. There is also an nice interview with the creative team. You can download the PDF guide here.
I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving weekend… :)
This production lumbers along; too many egos involved. The best part of this play are “The Bells”. It needs many minutes of editing, the songs sound the same, with different words. It is 2 1/2 hours long, 18 songs…too much! The direction is uneven and tentative, yuet the costumes and art are great., The actors are working with boring same note songs so it’s not their fault. There are too many actors on stage so it’s confusing. The chorus is nice, maybe un needed. This is not the best play I have seen at this great theater. The set is courageous and looks like the dull interior of a cathedral. What did you think?
