Cars Land Set to Open Summer 2012

We just learned that coming in Summer of 2012 will be the new Cars Land themed area of California Adventure. Cars Land recreates the Radiator Springs, the town in which the original animated feature Cars was set. It encompasses 12 acres and will include 3 attractions, along with eateries and shops, of course.

Radiator Springs Racer Ride (please tell me that’s a working title) is the big attraction taking up 6 acres in a dual that pits two cars against each other and use technology originally used at Test Track in EPCOT. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree is the second attraction. The third is the much awaited return of the Flying Saucer technology that existed for 6 years in Tomorrowland back in the 60s. Now it will be known as Luigi’s Flying Tires.

As it stands right now, most of the rock work has been done on the facades, but some additional themeing is needed to hide the rather large back of the Radiator Springs mountain range. The Racer Ride has actually been testing for a while now on a special test track they built before they even started major construction in the area. So, it’s not unthinkable that everything will be open by June or July of next year. More news at that date draws nearer, of course.
