Glenn Shadix RIP

I was very sad to hear that Glenn Shadix died after a fall in his home. He was best known as Otho from Beetlejuice, but had many memorable roles, including a number for Disney.

Shadix’s performance as Gertrude Stein in a stage play was spotted by Tim Burton and the two became friends. This led to some very memorable roles for Shadix in Burton’s films and elsewhere in Hollywood including a lot of recent voice over work (including some for Disney). In Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmass, he voiced the Mayor of Halloweentown.

You may also remember him as Father Ripper in the cult classic Heathers or as Ray Cathode in the SMTV videos from the queue of Disneyland’s Space Mountain.

In December of 2008 a fire destroyed the Victorian house in Alabama he was restoring. Recently he had some mobility problems that required use of a wheelchair. According to his family, Shadix died after suffering head trauma in the fall. He was 58.
