Whatever disease Pixar has, it is spreading across The Pacific Ocean to Japan. Studio Ghibli Animation Master Hayao Miyazaki has announced he is working on his first sequel. Porco Rosso: The Last Sortie will be a sequel to the 1992 film Porco Rosso. The initial film was set in WWI about an Italian fighter pilot cursed and turned into a pig.
Miyazaki is quoted as saying that The Last Sortie will be set during the Spanish Civil War and that it will represent a sort of artistic escape for him at the moment, focusing on a male character after so many films with female protagonists.
I loved Porco Rosso, it was light and funny despite the serious material. Can’t wait to see how Miyazaki does with a return to that world.
