I have been lucky enough to come across a small clip of the audio that will be used in Toy Story: Midway Mania, the attraction opening next month in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. At least that’s what they told me.
It does contain what some may consider spoilers. So if you want to experience the attraction with fresh eyes and ears on your first visit, you should probably skip playing this audio file.
The Disney’s Hollywood Studio version of Toy Story: Midway Mania is tentatively set to open on May 21st with the press event happening on the 14th. Operations is scheduled to get the attraction from Imagineering this Friday, but the handoff could happen sooner. After a few days of testing, it is possible that a few lucky guests will get to experience the attraction during soft openings. So if you’re on the way to Orlando in early May keep your fingers crossed when you are in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and walk by the attraction often.
Btw, there has been some debate about the name of the attraction. We know that the version in Anaheim will be called “Toy Story: Midway Mania” because the sign has been revealed on Paradise Pier at California Adventure. This audio pretty clearly calls the Orlando attraction “Toy Story: Midway Mania” (I suspect they use the same audio in both versions). But what changed my mind was that I also saw a logo for “Toy Story: Midway Mania” and the Imagineering team working on the attraction were calling themselves the “Toy Story MIdway Mania” team. Those seem like pretty clear signs to me.
Now, operations may still have decided that the ‘midway’ part doesn’t make any sense when the game isn’t set on a midway at Hollywood Studios. But it seems pretty clear that the attraction refers to itself as “Midway Mania”.
