DisneyToon Studios move signals slowdown for Direct-to-Video and DtV sequels

News came today that Sharon Morrill has stepped down from her post as the president of DisneyToon Studios. Morrill had been responsible for producing direct-to-video sequels of Disney’s animated features. She will continue working for the house house in other capacities.

This move is seen as both a vindication by fans who felt that direct-to-video sequels cheapened the Disney brand and of John Lasseter’s growing ability to affect the future of the Walt Disney Company. The long delayed film TINKER BELL has been the subject of much reworking since Lasseter and Ed Catmull joined the company and friction. (via)
