Local news is reporting that two tourists were kidnapped at gunpoint, forced to withdraw money from an ATM, and then assaulted shortly after midnight this morning at Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney. Crime levels in tourist areas of Orlando have been on the rise lately. However, this is the first recent news report I recall for such a violent crime to occur on Disney property.
The victims were guests at a Disney resort and Disney has said they’re providing what ever assistance is needed. It sounds like it was quite an ordeal for the couple. (Read)
That’s sad to read about, but stuff like that could happen anywhere. I’m actually surprised that it doesn’t happen more often at Downtown Disney than it does. It is an immense parking lot with lots of dark areas at night. Glad they are OK- also hope they aren’t making this up.
