The Encounter Restaurant at LAX was one of those weird Eisner-era experiments where Walt Disney Imagineering was encouraged to contract out their expertise and design prowness to other companies. They did an amazing job with a Jetsons/modern feel to the resturant/bar, including a ‘love’ themed lounge. There are no ‘Disney’ touches anywhere to indicate that WDI did the design.
Sadly Encounter has been forced to close for 6 months. Not for anything WDI did, but because some of the 50 year old structure’s iconic arches are dropping huge chunks of plaster on the restaurant’s roof (also the viewing platform) and need some serious repair. Link. (via Slashfood)
