Kate to leave the LOST island?

Over on The Lost Blog, they ponder a rumor that Evangeline Lilly, who plays Kate on Lost, is considering leaving the show to regain some of her privacy. Lilly is the actress who just lost everything in her rental home to a devastating fire, only to have the event blogged about in some detail on line. On top of that there are the people who are tracking her relationship with another actor from the show. So, if the rumor is true, I can understand why she feels that way.

I’m the type of person who, given time and opportunity, can geekout over a show to the point of obsession. I did this with RENT when it came to Los Angeles, and with the Hunchback of Notre Dame show at Disneyland. I don’t think anything I did ever passed the lines of anyone’s privacy. But when given the opportunity to meet with the cast, I did so. This was usually at the stage door, or occaisionally when invited to see another production the cast member was in.

That said, I’d never follow them out of the park, nor should you. That’s stalking. These are Disney theme park entertainers and not public figures. Also, when celebrities are in the parks as guests, I never approach them. In my view they’re there as guests trying to get some enjoyment in of the product I love so much. I wouldn’t want to disturb their fun. Heck I have a hard time approaching them even when they’re at an event where they’re expecting to sign autographs.

Somewhere along the line Lilly went from being an actress to being a public figure. She was probably aware that with great success as an actor comes some sacrifice of your private life. She just didn’t expect it to come so soon. But LOST is a great show and she’s a great actor. So she had to expect it would happen eventually. I hope she’s able to make the adjustment as I really enjoy her character on the show and think she’s one of the stronger actors on the show, when given the chance to show it by the writers.
