Good News about The Dark Crystal 2

The Movie Blog has heard some good news about the upcoming sequel to The Dark Crystal. Most of the good news comes from an MTV article that features an interview with some of the movers and shakers at The Jim Henson company and some storyboards from the movie.

"Puppetry has come a long way since ‘The Dark Crystal,’ " said the
amicable co-CEO of the Jim Henson Company. "When ‘The Dark Crystal’ was
made, it was the first time that all those techniques were really
refined to the degree that they could be put in a feature film. Since
then, puppetry has come so far that the puppets we’re going to use are
going to be much more emotive than the originals. In addition to that,
we can augment them with digital effects, but very subtly."

Can we get an amen! That’s the best news I’ve heard about the project. Even better is that the movie continues the story of elfin heroes Jen and Kira from the original film, only now as King and Queen of a new society. The icing on the cake is the return of Brian Froud for the concept art and storyboards.

I’d love to see something in the 100 minute range, the original was just 84 minutes. I think there is a lot more to be said about the wonderful world of the Dark Crystal.
