Disneyland’s Tomorrowland used to be a land that was ‘always on the move.’ Then the underfunded, poorly executed, management controlled, remodel of 1998 happened and slowly Tomorrowland came to a halt.
First the Peoplemover, one of the attractions brought over from the 1964 World’s Fair, was replaced by The Rocket Rods. Then the Rocket Rods suffered repair and capacity issues eventually being shut down as unworkable.
Now there is a movement underfoot to bring back the original Peoplemover attraction. People For The Peoplemover wants a return to the time when the skys of Tomorrowland were full of motion and meaning. If you agree they’re hoping you’ll sign their petition and help convince Disney to do the right thing. 440 people are on signed on as of this posting.
I’m all about mass transit and I think the people mover concept is a sound one. However, if it returns exactly as it was previously executed at Disneyland, I’m not sure it’s a good idea. On the other hand, if they want to use the Peoplemover technology to actually transport guests around the resort (perhaps through Downtown Disney to GardenWalk to a third gate) then I’m all aboard.
That said, if you’d like to see the Peoplemover back in any form it’s probably worth it to sign the petition and let your voice be heard.
After the People Mover comes back, let’s start on the flying saucers! They failed because the technology of the time couldn’t handle it. With computer control and better computer modeling, the saucers could fly again!
