Apparently Hayao Miyazaki, creator of Studio Ghibli and the academy award winning animated feature Howl’s Moving Castle, was asked to join AMPAS, those folks who hand out the Oscars and then resigned a few weeks later. His reason, he wanted to spend more time on films and less time on academy business. Fair enough.
Gedo Senki (Tales from Earthsea), the first film being directed by Hayao Miyazaki’s son, just opened in Japan to generally positive reviews, but not to the standards of Hayao, I hear. So I have to wonder if that means Hayao Miyazaki wants to spend some quality time with his son on the next film. (thanks filmick)
