More details are coming in on the expected cuts at the Walt Disney Company’s various film divisions. Upto 650 jobs are expected to be trimmed, or about 20% of the film production work force. Apparently the Miramax brand will be kept, but Hollywood Pictures and Touchstone will be folded under the Disney Pictures brand including the PG-13 films those studios usually release. Apparently the lack of protestation from releasing the Pirates films under the Disney brand has given them courage to release do away with the other names. In the long run they were all known as Disney branded films anyway, so I’m not sure what difference the different marketing efforts made anyway.
