Stumbling out of the gate: Hong Kong Disneyland

The USA Today adds fuel to the fire for the stumbling blocks that Disney is having to over come with its latest theme park, Hong Kong Disneyland. Some of this is just whining…

Superstar singer Kelly Chen, previously an enthusiastic Disney
supporter who filmed a music video in the park, vowed never to return.
"Her Disney dream is broken," said Mei Wong, a spokeswoman for Chen’s
record company, Go East Entertainment. Disney has apologized to Chen
and others.

…as the two cultures adjust to eachother. But as we know with California Adventure, word of mouth has a lot to do with how successful your first few years are. Of course, it might also have something to do with the lack of attractions at the new park.

  1. Please don’t tell me Hong Kong Disneyland is as lacking in rides as DCA. I live not 10 minutes from Disneyland and have an annual pass, and have only been to DCA twice. There just isn’t much to do there.

I’ve heard that the new head of the resort walked through DCA and essentially said it sucked. That it had too many shows and not enough rides. It sounds like they made the same mistake in Hong Kong.

  2. I love DCA. I must say I wasn’t very impressed when it first opened, but it has grown on me. It’s a great place for kids and adults alike. We have an annual pass and usually head over to DCA when DL becomes to crowded or our son falls asleep. We’ll go over to DCA, have a beer and relax until our son is recharged and ready to hit the ropes (literally).

Does it need more rides? Yes, but it has improved a lot since opening.

  3. Hong Kong Disneyland is just getting started. They don’t have as many rides as Disneyland, CA, however, plans are in the works to keep adding. The are currently working on Autopia, and I’m sure they will be adding more.

DCA was great for my kids. They loved the Bug’s Life area and it is great for chilling out from the Disneyland crowds.
