I’m getting a lot of searches wondering if Disney World, and other Orlando Themeparks will be open on Saturday following Hurricane Charley’s visit. I’ve heard from people who live near the Disney World resort (located southwest of Orlando) and they reported that the eye of the storm passed to the East of the Disney owned Reedy Creek District. So lighter winds (sustained winds at less than 70MPH with gusts above 70MPH) prevailed near Disney. But Universal Orlando and Seaworld may have seen some of the stronger winds. So damage there may be greater. Downtown Orlando has reports of some power outages, plenty of broken windows, and lots of trees (some of which were more than 100 years old) blown down.
In any event, I expect the four main theme parks of Disney to open tomorrow for guests. Disney’s Cast Portal reports that over 500 engineers and technicians were already on site to conduct any repairs that might be needed. The Waterparks and Downtown Disney may remain closed. If any park opens late, it would be because of power problems (although Celebration is known to have power still). The number to call to know for sure is: (407) 939-4636.
Btw, Orlando Sentinel reports that both Orange and Osceola County have instituted mandatory curfews until 6 a.m. Saturday.
is disney world open?
