Ihu’s Breakaway Falls at SeaWorld Orlando’s Aquatica – A Kid’s View

Local media were invited to experience the newest water park attraction in Orlando today — Ihu’s Breakaway Falls at SeaWorld Orlando’s Aquatica. We, of course, brought our daredevil of a son to give us the kid’s point of view of this thrilling drop slide.

Ihu’s Breakaway Falls is the tallest, steepest and only multi-drop tower slide of its kind in Orlando. Riders climb 126 steps to the top of the eight-story tower (nearly 80 feet). Once there I recommend pausing to take in the amazing view (and catch your breath). You then step into one of three colorful breakaway boxes and prepare for the anticipation of the drop and the exhilaration of the steep drops and spiraling water slide.

Riders who are not quite brave enough for the breakaway boxes can try the open slide. But don’t be fooled, this is not an ordinary slide; it’s the steepest of the four slides and it is in competition for the most intense.

“Ihu’s Breakaway Falls is the reason to visit Aquatica Orlando this summer,” said Bryan Nadeau, Aquatica Orlando vice president. “From the daring height, crazy drops, and intense speed, this thrilling new attraction brings a whole new level of excitement to an already amazing park that has so much for every age.”

Both my son, age 10, and I went on the ride, but since he’s young and full of energy, we’ll follow his experience today first:

As Indigo explains in his video there are four slide colors: On Orange, you drop more than three stories and slide for 420 feet in the longest of the four slides, the Green slide path has the shortest drop, but it’s still a 28-foot fall – that’s the same as four seven-foot tall basketball players. Fall from the Blue slide if you’re looking for the steepest slide with a breakaway box. The Purple slide isn’t a true drop slide, this open-aired slide requires you to propel yourself down the steepest drop of all four slides and features the tightest turns in the spiral.

Even if Ihu’s wasn’t the only new water slide opening in Orlando this year, Aquatica would still have a winner on their hands. Once you get over the initial fear of having a breakaway floor, you’re in one of three (or four depending on how you count) of the most thrilling water slides in Orlando. The good news is they’re not physically challenging, just exhilarating and fun. I road all four slides and Indigo repeated the fun over 50 times today.
