There are few combos as awesome as that of LEGO and superheroes. Obviously, peanut butter and chocolate ranks pretty high on the list, as do the musical stylings of Hall & Oates, but neither of them come close to LEGO Marvel’s Thor and Loki: No… Read More »LEGO Marvel’s Thor and Loki World Premiere Adventure Video!
Last weeks episode was my favorite thus far. I’ve enjoyed all of the episodes, but I think the way they told this story is exactly what the show had been missing. Let’s recap, shall we? Previously, on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Floating bodies begin popping up,… Read More »Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Episode 7 preview – The Hub
In the latest Marvel superhero mega-movie, the stakes are as big as can be and so is the movie. We saw Thor: The Dark World in 3D which made the film appear even bigger as much of the action jumps off the screen at you. As a sequel to Thor (and really, The Avengers), The Dark World progressed the story along nicely, and had all the elements a superhero movie requires.
Natalie Portman returns to play astrophysicist Jane Foster, and Thor’s love interest from the first movie. We find the hammer wielding god, played for the third time by Chris Hemsworth, in the role of peacekeeper in the 9 realms that Asgardians rule over. In his heart Thor pines for Foster. That this love is forbidden gets a little play at the start of the film and then is abandoned once the bad guy sets his evil plan in motion.
The bad guy is Malekith (played wonderfully by Christopher Eccleston), leader of the Dark Elves (who hail from a time before the universe was created and they’re a little cranky about that who light and goodness thing). Eccleston was pretty unrecognizable under all that makeup, but it gave him a sort of Dark Vader eeriness, and Eccleston’s acting helped elevate him into a suitable opponent for Thor. Malekith’s cohorts wore masks most of the time, reminding me alternatively of Storm Troopers (but with better aim) or, here’s your Disney reference, Spectromagic Dolls (a real horror for those in the know).
The conflict, when it comes, is what I call comicbook violence. People die, but there’s no blood. When gods are fighting each other the stakes still manage to feel real and when humanity is involved, we are essentially ants to those with superhero abilities. That’s how it should be. The film earns its PG-13 rating, but it you have a mature kid who’s a little younger, they’ll probably be fine. Read More »Thor: The Dark World, A Fantastic Return To Marvel’s Universe
Even though Thor: The Dark World has technically debuted internationally and midnight showings begin tonight, I’m embargoed from posting my full review until tomorrow. Sucks to be me. On the other hand I have seen the movie already and can say as much that if you’re a fan of Marvel’s comic-book superhero movies you’ll be impressed with Thor 2.
In the meantime, catch up on these great featurettes that Disney released to get us all excited about the return to Asgard:
It’s been two weeks so let’s do a quick recap: When we last left our heroes, Skye had basically destroyed all of the trust that she’d gained from her teammates. We also found out that she wants to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. Because she wants to find… Read More »Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode six preview – FZZT
Thor: The Dark World opened overseas this weekend to $45.3 million. That’s a good sign. Marvel announced that there will be a special 5 minute preview of Captain America: Winter Soldier for the 3-D showings of The Dark World. I realize that this is a… Read More »Marvel News Roundup
I apologize for missing last week, but let’s discuss this week’s episode.
The team heads back to L.A. when one of the super-humans that they’ve been monitoring goes missing. Turns out, Chan Ho Yin, a.k.a. Scorch, has been enticed by an offer to boost his powers by Raina, a.k.a. the girl in the flower dress.
Raina is working with the same doctor who we saw in the pilot episode. They are looking for something that will counteract the explosive effects from the EXTREMIS part of their project Centipede and they think that Scortch’s pyrokinetic abilities will be the answer.
While this is the case, neither Chan nor the doctor live long enough to see their efforts come to fruition. Chan is injected with the EXTREMIS serum by May and explodes while the doctor is killed by Raina who, it turns out is working for someone else. We meet him at the end of the episode when he and Raina discuss bringing in the “Clairvoyant.”
So, what is the team up to besides trying to stop Scorch and Raina? Well, Skye’s continuing relationship with the Rising Tide comes to a head and almost costs her her position on the team. It does cost her the trust that she had earned from her teammates, but she finally opens up to Coulson and reveals her true intentions.
The new trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier is out. It has all the sheild throwing action you could ask for, plus a look at the new villain, the Black Widow being amazing, and even Robert Redford (who knew?). Also is that The Falcon?
This is the MarvelUK version of the trailer as it has embedding allowed:
Marvel and Disney appear to have another hit on their hands. How would you rate the trailer?
