The Uncanny Valley

The Uncanny Valley is a term used in animation to talk about how there is a point at which computer generated animation looks wholy unhuman before it begins to look human again. The Incredibles, by design, is on one side of this valley and The Polar Express is on the other. Read on to get… Read More »The Uncanny Valley

Luxo fun!

Luxo blog, The Pixar Animation blog extra-ordinaire, features a new look and a link to this great MTV story on Brad Bird and The Incredibles. "Director Brad Bird is an anomaly in animation, a visionary with a retro sensibility and a stark aversion to the kind of safe, formulaic product that’s dominated the medium in… Read More »Luxo fun!

Whither Disney Animation?

With Pixar and Disney on the outs, Dreamworks with a few succesful films under it’s belt (not to mention Shrek2 the most successful animated film ever), and talent drain turning into a possible drought, what will happen to Disney’s feature animation division? They risk the chance of being the 4th or 5th ranked animated film… Read More »Whither Disney Animation?

The Incredibles from a writer’s viewpoint

the film makes fun of everything from superhero cliches, such as a villain "monologuing," to educational cliches, such as mom Elastigirl tells her educationally-challenged son, "Every child is special," to which Dash sardonically but correctly replies, "If everyone is special, then NO ONE is special." The Incredibles is the least formulaic feature yet and likely to be the most successful.

Not content to stand on their successes of the past, Pixar brought in the team from the new classic animated film, The Iron Giant. Director Brad Bird and his team of storytellers and artists admittedly had little to no experience with computer generated animation, Pixar’s specialty. This meant they had no idea of the limits of the media and were able to push the boundaries of CG animation to new and exciting places.

Disney Animation Dream

I do pray that Light will shine down and remove the Darkness that consumed Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom. This nightmare has all but destroyed the dream for everyone concerned. Though it’s mighty hard to play “The Glad Game” at The Studio these days, I remain an optimist like Pollyanna — and believe that “truth will… Read More »Disney Animation Dream
