Doctor Who, the beloved British science fiction television series, recently released a 60-second trailer in anticipation of its 60th anniversary celebration and return to screens in November 2023. The three specials will feature David Tennant reprising his role as the Fourteenth Doctor, with Ncuti Gatwa taking over as the Fifteenth Doctor over the festive season, accompanied by Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday.
In addition to previously announced cast members Catherine Tate, Yasmin Finney, and Neil Patrick Harris, the show will also see the return of Jacqueline King as Donna’s mother Sylvia and Karl Collins as her husband Shaun. Ruth Madeley will also make an appearance as Shirley Anne Bingham.
Fans can expect to see glimpses of classic Doctor Who monsters and the return of UNIT in the highly anticipated specials, which are set to be explosive. Showrunner Russell T Davies has promised a “riot of Doctor Who goodness” for the show’s 60th anniversary celebration.
As a fan of both “old Who,” the first 8 doctors, and “new Who,” the modern era rebooting of the show that started with the ninth Doctor, the partnership of Russell T Davies and David Tennant consistently produced some of the best storytelling of the modern era. A chance to revisit that partnership feels exactly like a gift to fans.
It’s also nice to learn that the brief time we have with Tennant will also help resolve the ending of Donna Noble, who many fans feel was done dirty by show producers as far as a Doctor’s companion goes.

Look at the monsters!
During his previous time as executive producer on the show, Davies introduced, or reintroduced, a variety of monsters and villains to the Doctor Who universe, including the Daleks, the Cybermen, and the Weeping Angels. Davies’ use of monsters was praised for adding a sense of danger and tension to the show, and for bringing back classic Doctor Who monsters from previous eras of the show.
Doctor Who Joins The Disney Family
It was recently announced that Disney has partnered with the production company responsible for Doctor Who and will stream the series on its platform, Disney+, beginning in 2023. This will provide a new avenue for fans of the long-running show to access and enjoy its adventures through time and space.
For those unfamiliar with Doctor Who, it follows the adventures of a Time Lord, a being from the planet Gallifrey, as they travel through time and space in their spaceship, the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension in Space). The Doctor is accompanied by a group of companions and visits various planets, encounters alien species, and encounters historical figures and events. The Doctor has the ability to regenerate, allowing for multiple actors to portray the role over the years. The show has been airing since 1963 and has amassed a devoted fan base.
As Doctor Who prepares to enter its 60th year, fans can look forward to the return of the show in November 2023 and the exciting adventures that the Doctor and their companions will embark on.
